Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, renowned people are often photograph by professional photographers in every place they visit. While a number of individuals state that is a positive aspect for the public who admire them, others argue that photographers should not follow famous personalities. Although both viewpoints have merit, I believe that following celebrities can not only invade their privacy but also make their life stressful.

On the one hand, proponents are of the opinion that media should follow famous personalities wherever they go. The key reason is to provide information and capture memories of their lifestyles particularly for their fans. For instance, a large number of expert photographers follow public figures and click their pictures to post on social networking sites. If photographs are regular updates and lifestyles of well-known influencers are posted online, their are more prone to create a strong fan base.

On the other hand, opponents contend that it is inadvisable to trail lives of famous celebrities. One significant reason is that it can lead to invasion of their private life and cause unnecessary stress. To illustrate, in India, a considerable number of images and personal information are available in daily newspapers, particularly politicians and athletes, which causes adverse effects on their mental well-being. Although taking pictures of popular personalities shows their remarkable success and contribution to their field, it does not mean that following them everywhere is a better option. As a result, following famous figures is not a right option just to share their updates.

In conclusion, a segment of the population believe that professional photographers should track them to click photos due to the public interest, whereas others consider that is not appropriate to follow them as it makes their private life disturbing and stressful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of fan engagement versus the drawbacks of privacy invasion. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'mental well-being' of public figures is a strong point, but it could have been expanded with more depth or a more nuanced exploration of the ethical implications. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, merely restating the prompt rather than synthesizing the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To illustrate' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the phrase 'their are more prone' in the second paragraph is grammatically confusing and disrupts the logical progression of the sentence. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using less common items like 'proponents', 'inadvisable', and 'adverse effects'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'trail lives' is not the standard collocation for following someone's life; 'intrude upon' or 'scrutinize' would be more precise. Additionally, the phrase 'click their pictures' is slightly informal for an academic essay. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, preventing a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'renowned people are often photograph' (should be 'photographed'), 'their are more prone' (should be 'they are'), and 'it is not appropriate to follow them as it makes their private life disturbing' (should be 'lives' to match the plural subject). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed.
