Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, popular celebrities are often photographed by media everywhere whenever they go outside. Some people claim that this is beneficial because many fans are interested in the lives of famous celebrities. However, other people think that following them constantly is not acceptable. According to me, famous people require privacy, especially when they are with their family.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people support photographing famous people because they take interest in the private lives of celebrities, including actors, players, and musicians. Photography allows fans to keep up with celebrities' personal activities and learn about fashion and style. In addition, celebrity photographs is also a source of income for many people who sell newspapers, magazines, and media.

On the other hand, photography is the main reason for privacy compromise. These days several media paparazzi click celebrities' photos without permission of them, which directly affects the personal lives of well-known people while they are doing unusual activities like going to the gym, shopping, and spending family time with their loved ones. As a result, it creates stress on the mind.

I believe that clicking pictures while taking awards in public events and willingly interacting with media but photography in unusual situations is not acceptable because it disturbs the privacy of a person while enjoying family members.

In conclusion, although photography satisfies the public curiosity by providing information on famous people and it also provides financial benefits to many people, media should maintain some boundaries so media cannot disturb the personal lives of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the public interest in celebrity lives versus the right to privacy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'stress on the mind' is mentioned but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples or deeper analysis of the consequences of paparazzi culture. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion could be more robust by synthesising the arguments rather than just restating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'without permission of them', which is grammatically awkward and affects the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'beneficial', 'privacy compromise', and 'public curiosity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'clicking pictures' is informal; 'taking awards' is an incorrect collocation (should be 'receiving awards'); and 'unusual activities' is not the best fit for the context of daily life. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'celebrity photographs is' (subject-verb agreement), 'without permission of them' (awkward phrasing), and 'media should maintain some boundaries so media cannot disturb' (repetitive and slightly unnatural). Punctuation is generally correct, but some sentences are clunky. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free. The current level of accuracy is sufficient for communication but requires more attention to detail.
