IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In today's world, it is increasingly common that famous people are photographed by experienced photographers wherever they go. While some proponents believe that it is a good thing as people are keen to learn more about their personal lives, others contend that photographers violate their privacy with constant scrutiny. This essay will outline both perspectives in detail and argue that photographers need to adhere to ethical standards when photographing famous personalities.

One of the primary reasons why people believe that it is beneficial to photograph famous personalities is that it creates an emotional connection between fans and their favourite actors. This is largely because youngsters nowadays shape their lifestyles and goals according to the behaviour of their famous personalities. If their favourite actors contribute to performing good deeds, they would be likely to follow in their footsteps. As a result, gaining a glimpse into their favourite models' personal lives encourages individuals to become responsible citizens, thereby strengthening their emotional connection with their famous people. For example, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who has a huge fan following, has influenced many youngsters through her commitment to her religious life. Consequently, her personal lifestyle is frequently covered by the paparazzi. Hence, this example shows why people believe it is advantageous to photograph famous personalities.

On the contrary, people who believe it is not best practice to be followed by photographers argue that it leads to undue stress and anxiety. This is because when actors want to come out of their homes to get fresh air away from their professional life, they are constantly covered by paparazzi without their consent. These actions performed by media reporters not only affect their mental well-being but also create misinterpretations of their random pictures in the media industry. For this reason, celebrities often hesitate to come in front of paparazzi because those random pictures captured by reporters might spread false information about their lifestyle. To exemplify, Bollywood actor Salman Khan faced a huge downturn in his career due to false information spread by media reporters related to animal killing. Therefore, it is evident that photographers need to get consent before photographing famous personalities.

In conclusion, although it is advantageous for famous personalities to be photographed by experienced photographers, I believe these professional photographers need to follow ethical practices when photographing famous personalities.
