Student answer (Band 6.5)

Celebrities are considered as role models for many people these days. Therefore, it is common to believe that they are captured in cameras by media at public places. A few people think that it is a positive trend as they are interested in their lives. While, others opine that the personal lives of famous people should not be highlighted. I support the latter view. This essay will discuss both the views along with my opinion in further paragraphs.

To begin with the reasons why clicking pictures of famous celebrities is a good thing. Celebrities want to earn name and fame, thus they give poses to cameramen. Due to which, they get highlighted in newspapers and social media. As a result, they gain publicity. Apart from this, celebrities such as Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan etcetera are role models for many youngsters. Thereby, they are keen to looking into their personal lives so that they can also follow the same outfits, glasses and footwear. In this way, followers are keeping themselves updated. Hence, it is believed by some people that it is good if famous people are photographed by professionals.

According to my viewpoint, I consider this as a negative trend because sharing someone's personal life in social media affects their fan following. To explain, it is sometimes observed that famous people are being criticized by others, when their bad habits are highlighted in news which further affects their image and fan following. Taking an example into consideration, it is observed when the famous actor of bollywood industry "Salman Khan" killed a man by an accident who was sleeping on the side walk of the road in Mumbai. When investigated, it is found that Salman Khan was driving after drinking. This news had put negative effect on his image and fan following. Therefore, I feel that the personal lives of celebrities should be secured.

In conclusion, although taking pictures of celebrities at public places helps them to earn name and fame, yet its adverse effects cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of publicity for celebrities and the potential negative impact of media intrusion on their personal lives. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding fans following fashion trends is a bit superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of these points with more depth and nuance. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the stance taken.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Thereby, they are keen to looking into their personal lives'. Additionally, the referencing could be smoother in places to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'publicity', 'criticized', and 'adverse effects'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'captured in cameras' (should be 'captured on camera') and 'keen to looking into' (should be 'keen on looking into'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and varied synonyms would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'Celebrities are considered as role models' (the 'as' is unnecessary), 'Due to which' (a sentence fragment), and 'This news had put negative effect' (should be 'a negative effect'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the misuse of commas and quotation marks. The errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex structures will help.
