Student answer (Band 7.5)

Nowadays, famous people are frequently photographed by professional photographers wherever they go. While some people believe this is acceptable because the public is interested in celebrities’ personal lives, others argue that constantly following them is an invasion of privacy. In my opinion, although there is some public interest in celebrities, photographers should respect their private lives.

On the one hand, many people enjoy knowing about the lifestyles of famous individuals. Celebrities often influence fashion, entertainment and social trends, so photographs can provide the public with information about their activities and appearances. In addition, professional photographers and media organisations earn money by publishing these images because there is considerable demand for celebrity news. For example, photographs of actors attending major events or travelling to popular destinations often attract millions of views on social media and entertainment websites.

On the other hand, constantly following famous people can seriously affect their privacy and personal freedom. Celebrities may want to spend time with their families or friends without being photographed, just like ordinary people. Persistent photographers can also create stressful and uncomfortable situations, particularly when they follow someone to private locations. In some cases, their behaviour may even put celebrities or other people at risk. For instance, aggressive attempts to photograph public figures while they are driving could potentially cause accidents.

In conclusion, although the public’s interest in famous people creates a demand for professional photographs, I believe photographers should not follow celebrities everywhere. They should focus on public events and respect people’s privacy when they are engaged in their personal activities.
