Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an ongoing debate regarding famous people who are chased by professional photographers everywhere they go for the photographs. Many people support this idea as they think common people like to stay informed about the celebrities lives while others argue that photographers must maintain some distance to give space to these people. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe it is wrong to follow anyone who is of public interest.

On the one hand, people who are famous in anyway like to stay in the limelight as it inceases their popularity and fan following. They deliberately informs media and photographers wherever they go to keep themself in the centre of attention. For example, many artists hire personal photographers for an event just to keep spotlight on them. Moreover, pictures and media attention keep celebrities more popular as the public is interested in their daily routine, lifestyle and even personal relationships. For example, drama artists, film-stars and influencers post pictures on social media to gain more followers and seek validation.

On the other hand, there are some potential negative aspects of this trend as it disturbs personal life and destroys peace. Many notable figures prefer to keep to stay low-key, and prefer to maintain their privacy, but photographers keep an eye on them to take their pictures whenever possible. For example, Paparazzi follow these people to get their candid photos even if someone is grieving at a funeral. A lot of pictures are also taken out of context to malign the reputation of important public figures.

In conclusion, while both the views hold merit, I believe taking pictures of famous people wherever they go is a negative trend that affects their personal life and mental peace. There should be a limit for people who follow them by respecting their privacy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the argument regarding the invasion of privacy at sensitive moments like funerals provides a strong, specific example to support the negative view. However, the development of the first viewpoint—that celebrities invite attention—could be more nuanced; while you mention influencers seeking validation, the argument could be strengthened by distinguishing between celebrities who actively court the media and those who are harassed against their will. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay, and the task requirements are met effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' to link your points effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'both the views' in the conclusion, which could be phrased more naturally as 'both these views.' Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'stay in the limelight,' 'candid photos,' and 'malign the reputation' are used effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'deliberately informs media' (should be 'informs the media') and 'keep themself' (should be 'themselves'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the range is adequate rather than wide. The errors do not impede communication, but more sophisticated synonyms or idiomatic expressions would elevate the score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are error-free, there are recurring grammatical slips that prevent a higher score. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'celebrities lives' (should be 'celebrities' lives') and 'photographers must maintain some distance to give space to these people' (a bit wordy). You also have minor errors such as 'famous in anyway' (should be 'anyway') and 'keep to stay low-key' (redundant). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate throughout the text.
