Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is ubiquitous to witness that famous public figures are followed and photographed by the media quite often. One section of the society believes it to be positive as people are excited to learn about their lives but on the other hand , some oppose the view considering this wrong.

I will be discussing both the aspects of the view in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with , some believe that celebrities are made famous by the people and they ought to develop a keen interest in their daily routines, fitness and fashion secrets , their outfits all of which is published through the media pictures taken outside restaurants , gyms , movie sets, events and outside their residences. Additionally, commoners follow these public figures on the social media platforms as they appear , get clicked and influence people who consider them as their ideal. For instance, Virat Kohli has a very huge fan base where fans are always curious to know about him.

Alternatively, other section of the society feels it is not virtuous to follow celebrities and click pictures of every activity they do. Though they are public figures, however they have their personal lives and publishing everything is a breach of privacy which is completely unethical. Also this gives everyone h=an open access to judge them on the basis of a few photographs and media reviews.

Overall , in my opinion it is understandable that common people have wish to see their favorite ideals but photographing them at every instance is an intrusion to their right of privacy and there should be a boundary drawn to this practice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the public's interest is supported by a relevant example (Virat Kohli), but the explanation remains quite superficial. The second body paragraph touches on privacy but could have been extended with more depth regarding the societal impact of paparazzi culture. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the ideas are not fully developed to the level required for a higher band, as the analysis remains somewhat brief and lacks nuance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Alternatively', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'I will be discussing both the aspects of the view in the upcoming paragraphs', which is unnecessary filler. Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall structure feels a bit formulaic, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'public figures', 'breach of privacy', and 'unethical'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'It is ubiquitous to witness' and 'commoners follow'. There is also a minor typo ('h=an'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoiding repetitive or slightly misused phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues. For example, the sentence 'Though they are public figures, however they have their personal lives' contains a redundant conjunction ('Though' and 'however'). There are also issues with comma placement and spacing throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in punctuation would significantly improve your score.
