IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is very common nowadays where we see clipings of photographs of popular celebrities in the newspapers. There are plenty of photographers in the airport waiting for the celebrities to make an entry so that they are able to get a picture of them.
Recently, the public seems to approve these as they believe that it is important to know the whereabouts of their liked celebrities so they are up-to-date on their knowledge of their loved ones. For instance, when an actor or actress talks about their upcoming movie, we find people going crazy on this matter as they believe that their so called loved celebrity has announced a new movie and they are definitely not going to miss it.
Furthermore, we see that whenever a celebrity with his or her spouse decides to go for a restaurant, there will be plenty of photographers waiting for a perfect click in the entrance of the restaurant. This makes it easier for the celebrity not to publish anything on the social media since all their work has already been done. And by doing so, the particular restaurant where they dined in gets a free promotion as the public will rush to that restaurant to have the same dish as their loved celebrity had.
But the rest of the public is always against the issue of clicking of photographs of the famous people. They believe that their privacy should not be violated as the common people have no right to know their whereabouts. They think that celebrities have their own life apart from cinemas, they have their right to spend some quality time with their families.
I agree and support to the point where it is important to respect the privacy of the celebrities. It is not accpetable to invade in other's life by clicking photographs without their permission.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the benefits of paparazzi is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on the 'restaurant' example. The opposing view is addressed, but the explanation of why privacy is important could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more sophisticated supporting arguments to move beyond a basic level of discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'But', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between the restaurant example and the broader topic of public interest is slightly tenuous. Referencing is mostly clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the argument without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'celebrities', 'photographers', and 'loved'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'whereabouts', 'violated', 'invade'), the overall lexical range is somewhat limited. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'clipings' (clippings) and 'make an entry', which do not impede communication but suggest a need for more varied and sophisticated word choices to express ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It is very common nowadays where we see' (which should be 'when we see'), 'approve these' (should be 'approve of this'), and 'invade in other's life' (should be 'invade others' lives'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings. While the errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a higher band.
