Student answer (Band 6.0)

The issue of whether photographer should follow famous people has become increasingly important in recent years, influencing public and other media group. This essay will discuss both trend and present my own opinion on this trend, using explanations and relevant examples.

One key point to consider is that majority of people are following celebrities and taking personal interest in their lives. This is because people are more active on social media nowadays, they spend most of their time in looking after what famous people are up to. For example, people follow celebrities on their social media handles and keep looking on what they are doing in their personal life. As a result, they try to do similar things like famous people do in their lives. Therefore, it is clear that people take personal interest in famous people's life.

Another important aspect is it makes a bit difficult for celebrities to live their normal life. In other words, getting followed by a photographer wherever the famous people try to go is completely annoying especially when they try to live normal life. A good example can be seen when photographers usually follows celebrities to their gym and start taking interviews, pictures and make them uncomfortable. Thus, this shows that it is wrong for professional photographers to follow famous person.

In conclusion, photographers reveal most of the regular activities of famous people by following them, which is good for people who are interested in famous people's life. But at the same time photographers disturbs the celebrity's personal life. It is essential that photographer should give some personal space to famous people by leaving them alone at certain occasions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding public interest is repetitive, focusing heavily on social media without exploring the broader psychological or cultural reasons for this fascination. The second body paragraph touches on the lack of privacy but lacks depth in explaining the ethical implications or the balance between public interest and individual rights. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more nuanced analysis rather than simply stating that something is 'annoying' or 'wrong'. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments need more substance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One key point to consider', 'In other words', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the social media point and the desire to imitate celebrities is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'famous people', 'normal life', and 'good thing'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated command of language. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'media group' (should be 'media outlets') and 'looking after what famous people are up to' (should be 'keeping track of'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to media ethics, privacy, and celebrity culture, such as 'paparazzi', 'intrusive', 'public figure', or 'right to privacy'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the majority', 'a photographer') and subject-verb agreement ('photographer should follow', 'photographers disturbs'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'influence public and other media group'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and article usage, and attempt to vary your sentence structures with more complex subordinating clauses.
