Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent trends, popular people are photographed by the professional photographers wherever they go. While one set of people take it as a positive trend, the other group of people think the photographers are wrong to follow them everywhere. I stand with the people who see it as a wrong practice.

On one hand, there are people who take celebrities as a role model and follow their day to day life blindly with or without thinking the merits and demerits of them. For instance, starting from make up, fitness, brands of the products even if they are of higher price, it has become influence for not only the adults but also the younger generations.

On the other hand, people think famous people have their private life to live and should not be in the lights of media all the time. As an illustration, due to the popularity, they wouldn't be able to visit any places without being surrounded by the crowd, personal life being under the consideration of society and public have the opinion if they are famous their life can be public too which is not the right mentality. In addition to it, the photographers should have the consent to follow and publish about them rather than just following them by knowing their whereabouts.

Consequently, I firmly believe that, people being famous shouldn't be followed while they are not out for their public events and the photographers should always have the acknowledgement to be followed or being photographed and published

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The first body paragraph focuses on the public's obsession with celebrities rather than the photographers' actions, which is only tangentially related to the prompt. The second body paragraph touches on privacy but lacks specific, well-developed examples to support the points. While the position is consistent, the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. The response is just over the minimum length, which restricts the depth of analysis possible.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing within sentences is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'with or without thinking the merits and demerits of them', where the pronoun reference is ambiguous. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'in the lights of media' (should be 'in the media spotlight') and 'have the acknowledgement' (should be 'have the consent'). The use of 'merits and demerits' is a good attempt at academic language, but the overall lexical range is somewhat repetitive. To improve, you should focus on using more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to privacy and media ethics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the professional photographers', 'the public') and prepositions. For example, 'in the recent trends' should be 'recent trends', and 'have the acknowledgement to be followed' is grammatically awkward. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
