Student answer (Band 7.0)

While many people argue that there is nothing wrong in following the celebrities for taking their photographs, other opine that this is a wrong approach. In my opinion, following renowned people for taking their photos everywhere may have detrimental impact on their life and the society itself.

On the one side of the argument, there are several individuals who supports the actions of paparrazi. The most compelling reason for believing this is that the fans of famous people want to know about their lives. As these public figures are considered role models for the new generation, they want to follow their lifestyle and routine. Therefore, some people think that it is obligatory for the famous personalities to share their photos from their daily life publicly because they became successful due to the general public's love and respect towards them. Morover, this keeps the celebrities socially active on online platforms. For example, many people keep following their favourites actors on social media to see their regular updates even if they have not worked in any movie for few years. Thus, for staying connected to the audience, it is important for famous people to let the professional photographers take their photos.

Despite the above arguments, I am of the view that photographers are wrong to follow famous people. Indeed, one reason why I take this position is privacy invasion. When famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go, they cannot enjoy their personal life with their family members. Not only does the media snatches their basic right of freedom but also they may put their life in risk by showing their location and other information publicly. Furthermore, it is my firm belief that it may affect the vulnerable groups of society such as youngters in adverse way. The lifestyle of celebrities may lead to the sense of insecurity among other society members as they may compare it with their liefstyle. Hence, it may gaslights young people into believing that their lives are not good enough which may lead to social tensions.

In conclusion, although both views are commonly held in the society, I consider that intrusive photographers are completely wrong about their actions as they are invading someone's private life and unintentionally force other community members to feel inferior.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the discussion on privacy invasion and the impact on young people. However, some arguments, particularly regarding the 'socially active' aspect of celebrities, could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To improve, ensure that the link between celebrity lifestyle and societal insecurity is more logically connected to the role of photographers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two viewpoints and the writer's own opinion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one side of the argument', 'Despite the above arguments', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward transition in the second paragraph. Overall, the structure is clear and the logical flow is maintained throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas with some precision. You use some good collocations like 'detrimental impact', 'privacy invasion', and 'vulnerable groups'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'paparrazi' (spelled 'paparazzi'), 'snatches' (should be 'snatch' to agree with 'media'), and 'gaslights' (used slightly incorrectly in this context). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals who supports' should be 'support', 'media snatches' should be 'media snatch') and minor errors like 'in risk' (should be 'at risk') and 'liefstyle' (spelling). While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to increase the number of error-free sentences.
