Student answer (Band 6.0)

Popular people being followed everywhere is no news to us. While this debate is going on, half the people believe that it is absolutely okay as public tends to have public interests in their lives whereas the other half belive that's its not good to follow famous people, as they need privacy. I completely agree that public figures should be given some privacy for their sake.

The main reason people are curious about their stars is that they look up to them. When celebrities get famous, it is evident that their fan base will increase. Every move, every conversation becomes public once they reach a certain point; this is where photographers come in for more details about their lives. For instance, when a celebrity is seen doing some social work, the followers tend to follow the same path as their ideals. This brings positive change in society.

Having a public life means no privacy at all. All of your moves are being tracked as if someone is waiting for you to make a mistake. When famous people are being photographed 24/7 they tend to be mentally depressed. Much research has shown that most of the celebrities has to go to therapy because of constantly being on the spot light and having to be perfect all the time. The constant pressure of the public's opinion toll to hamper their mental health.

In conclusion, I completely believe that they need to be given privacy to the celebrities as they also have the right to privacy. Just because they are public figures doesn't justify that their whole lives need to be public. Afterall, they are also humans who just agreed to be on screen for a certain part of their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the benefits of public interest and the negative impact of constant photography—while clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are adequately developed, such as the point about celebrities inspiring positive social work and the psychological toll of being tracked 24/7. However, the reasoning tends to be somewhat general, and further extension of the arguments would elevate the task response to a higher band. Nevertheless, the position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the task are successfully met. Band score: 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring opposing viewpoints, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences, such as 'For instance' and 'In conclusion', though referencing and transitions are at times a bit mechanical or repetitive ('the other half belive that's its not good', 'This brings positive change'). Overall, the arrangement is coherent and progression is clear throughout the text, satisfying the requirements of a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 performance. Band score: 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'fan base', 'social work', and 'mentally depressed'. There are some awkward phrasings and spelling or typo errors, such as 'belive', 'spot light', and 'toll to hamper their mental health', which detract slightly from precision. Less common lexical items are attempted with mixed success. Meaning is generally clear despite these occasional word-choice and collocation errors. Band score: 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses ('When celebrities get famous, it is evident that...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('giving privacy to the celebrities'), punctuation issues, and awkward verb agreements ('most of the celebrities has to go'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without major difficulty. Band score: 6.0.
