Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on celebrities and paparazzi and providing a clear personal opinion in favour of the positive impacts. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the writer explores the economic benefits, job creation for professionals like editors and photographers, and the fulfillment of public curiosity. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or lack depth, such as the claim that sharing daily routines directly helps society become popular. While the position is clear throughout, a more thorough exploration of the negative perspective regarding invasion of privacy would have elevated the task response. Overall, the performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, as all parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant supporting ideas, though some areas remain slightly under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, dedicating distinct paragraphs to the introduction, the two opposing viewpoints, and the conclusion. Logical progression is evident as the writer transitions smoothly from introducing the topic to elaborating on the economic benefits, followed by the privacy concerns and a summarizing conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty due to awkward referencing and transitional phrases. Expressions like 'To explain it' and 'To expound it' are repetitive and unnatural. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'This things society like to follow'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the management of cohesive devices requires greater flexibility and naturalness to secure a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and collocational phrases such as 'public curiosity', 'candid picture', and 'legal and moral boundaries'. However, there are notable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'epoch' used rather awkwardly, 'profrssionals', 'individual' instead of 'individuals', 'writes' instead of 'writers', 'craete', 'curosity', and 'loss' instead of 'lose'. While these vocabulary and spelling errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 7. The lexical range is minimally sufficient for effective task completion but lacks the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several successful complex sentences, such as 'Popular people are photographed by profrssionals no matter wherever they do though some individual thinks it is positive thing...' However, the text contains a high frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues ('social media has become significantly increased', 'pupil are fascinated', 'some individual thinks', 'This things society like to follow', 'people can misuse their photographs and it can be dangerous...'), missing plural markers, and article omissions. Although the meaning is generally recoverable and communication is rarely completely blocked, the persistent grammatical inaccuracies mean that error-free sentences are not in the majority.
