Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both views regarding celebrities being photographed everywhere and provides a general direction of a response, but the task is significantly compromised by length. As noted in the instructions, the response contains only 211 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This under-length impacts the depth of idea development, leading to underdeveloped arguments and limited support. While the writer mentions the public interest and the privacy of celebrities, these points remain superficial. Additionally, there is no distinct conclusion provided, which prevents the position from being fully developed throughout the essay. Consequently, the score reflects a partial response due to the underdeveloped ideas and the severe word count penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a basic attempt at organisation, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and transitional phrases such as 'In the forth coming paragraphs' and 'on the other hands'. However, the overall progression is disrupted by abrupt paragraph breaks and incomplete thoughts. Paragraphing is used, but the structure is weak, especially given that the final paragraph trails off mid-sentence without a proper conclusion or full stops in places. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting pronouns confusingly between plural and singular subjects (e.g., 'every famous have there personal life'). Overall, the structural flow is hindered by these mechanical errors and lack of cohesive control.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses a limited range of vocabulary appropriate for basic communication, such as 'contemporary era', 'social media platforms', and 'advancement in the technology'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'personality' instead of 'personalities', 'there' instead of 'their', 'photographed' used incorrectly as a verb infinitive in 'prefer to photographed', and 'unknowns persons'. These errors occur regularly and demonstrate an inadequate control of word formation and spelling. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a general topic, the frequency of errors restricts the lexical score to this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay relies heavily on simple and attempted complex sentences, but these are frequently marred by basic grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'everyone have' instead of 'everyone has', and missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect verb forms, such as 'famous people prefer to photographed'. Punctuation is also problematic, evidenced by missing terminal punctuation at the end of the response and unneeded spaces before commas. Complex structures are attempted with subordinating conjunctions like 'because of that', but they are often run-on and grammatically flawed. The frequency of grammatical inaccuracies causes noticeable difficulty for the reader.
