Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, famous people are frequently photographed by professional photographers wherever they go. While some people believe that is acceptable because the public is interested in the lives of celebrities, other argue that following them constantly is an invasion of privacy. This essay will discuss both view before giving my opinion.

On the one hand, there is considerable pubic interest in the personal lives of famous people. Celebrities, such as actor, athletes and musicians, often attract millons of followers, and photographys provide people with information about their activities and lifestyles. Moreover, professional photographers and media organisations can benefit financially frm publishing such pictures. For example, photographs of celebrities attending major events can attract a large number of readers and viewers, which increases advertising revenue for newspapers and online platforms.

On the other hand, constantly following famous people can seriously affect their privacy and personal freedom. Although celebrities are public figures, they still need priavte time with their families and friends. Being photographed continuously, particularly during ordinary activities, can make them feel uncomfortable and prevent them from living a normal life. In some cases, photographers may follow celebrities without their permission simply to obtain attractive pictures for commerical purpose.

In my opinion, professional photographers should be able to photograph famous people when they are attending public events or performing their professional duties. However, following them everywhere and photographing their private activities should be avoided. public interest is important, but I should not completely remove an individual's right to privacy.

In conclusion, although photographs of famous people satisfy public curiosity and provide finanical benefits to the media, excessive photography can interfere with their private lives. Therefore, a reasonable balance should be maintained between public interest and personal privacy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on paparazzi and celebrities, while also clearly stating a personal opinion throughout. The introduction sets up the discussion, and body paragraphs provide relevant arguments, such as public curiosity and financial benefits on one hand, and privacy concerns on the other. Ideas are well-supported with logical extensions, such as how photographs increase advertising revenue or how constant surveillance affects normal life. The conclusion neatly ties everything together. The position is well-developed, and the response fulfills the requirements for Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to the two opposing views, the personal opinion, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to separate distinct points. Referencing is generally clear, though minor typographical slips in cohesion do not impede the overall logical flow, placing this securely at Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, such as 'considerable public interest', 'financial benefits', and 'personal freedom'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but occasional spelling and word-choice errors occur, such as 'pubic' instead of 'public', 'actor' instead of 'actors', 'millons' instead of 'millions', 'photographys' instead of 'photographs', 'frm' instead of 'from', 'priavte' instead of 'private', 'commerical' instead of 'commercial', and 'finanical' instead of 'financial'. Despite these minor lexical and typographical inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication, matching the Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with good control over overall sentence structure. The student successfully incorporates subordinate clauses and conditional constructions. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as 'other argue' instead of 'others argue', 'discuss both view' instead of 'both views', and a lowercase 'public' starting a sentence in the fourth paragraph. However, these errors do not impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are accurate, while complex attempts show a reasonable level of control, earning a solid Band 6.
