Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the positive view of public interest and the negative view of privacy invasion, while also providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, but some points are slightly repetitive or under-developed, such as the discussion on celebrities managing their own social media profiles. The position is clear throughout, although the expression of ideas sometimes lacks precision. Overall, the response meets the requirements for Band 6 because it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, even though some arguments could be extended further and supported with more specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs representing different views, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, such as the abrupt transition 'On the hand' instead of 'On the other hand'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression within paragraphs is disrupted by grammatical awkwardness. Paragraphing is used, but internal flow needs smoother cohesive links. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'entertainment industry', 'whereabouts', and 'invasion in their privacy'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'Nowdays' instead of Nowadays, 'limitied' instead of limited, 'prespective' instead of perspective, 'apperaing' instead of appearing, and 'equilant' instead of equivalent. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5, bridging the gap between adequate range and noticeable inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but frequent grammatical errors occur, particularly with verb forms, prepositions, and sentence fragments. Examples include 'entertainment industry in not limitied', 'there are also exist some people', 'Each and every person is having', and 'life's are like an open book'. There are also run-on sentences and punctuation slips, such as the final sentence of the essay. Although communication is maintained, the frequent errors in grammar and structure place this response firmly at Band 5.0.
