Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Currently photographers earn a lot from publishing celebrity photos. Therefore, they follow well-known people and capture their moments. This will help some of the brands and destinations such as cafes and hotels to earn public interest. Also, celebrities can influence people with their behavior. While some believe this is a good practice, I believe this is a bad thing because this will harm famous people's privacy and some of them need to follow strict diets to make a good impression.
The majority of well-known clothing and jewellery brands use famous people such as sportsmen, actors and singers to promote their products. Also, some brand new cafes, restaurants and hotels also use this strategy to attract more customers. Therefore, these photographs help them gain more consumers. For example, sports gear brands like Nike and Adidas use famous footballers and cricketers to promote their products. Additionally, photographers are benefiting from this act by earning more social media followers, projects and money. Moreover, famous people's behavior can influence the general public in a positive way.
On the other hand, this practice badly affects the celebrities’ day-to-day lives as this harms their privacy. They cannot even have a peaceful dinner with family without public interference. For instance, Harry Potter actor Daniel wore the same outfit to avoid photographers while he was shooting his new movie. Further, they need to maintain a good impression on their fans. Thus, they have to follow diets and spend a lot on their clothing and makeup.
In conclusion, recently a number of photographers have followed celebrity stars to capture their daily lives. Although this helps photographers and brands to earn more and influence the public, this will affect the famous people's lives in a negative way. Hence, I believe it is wrong to follow famous people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the benefits of photographing celebrities for branding and public engagement, and the negative impacts on their privacy and lifestyle—while also clearly stating a personal opinion. The response presents relevant ideas, such as the use of famous athletes by brands like Nike and Adidas, and the pressure celebrities face regarding their appearance and privacy. However, some ideas could be extended further. For instance, the point about celebrities needing to maintain strict diets is stated rather than fully developed with a robust explanation. Overall, the position is clear throughout, and the task requirements are well met, which aligns comfortably with a Band 6.5 or 7.0 descriptor. Due to the clear stance and adequate coverage of both sides, a band score of 6.5 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation. It is divided into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, a body paragraph supporting the first view, a body paragraph supporting the second view, and a conclusion. The student uses cohesive devices effectively, such as 'For example', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and referencing is generally clear (e.g., 'these photographs', 'this practice'). Although some transitions feel a bit formulaic or mechanical, the logical flow is maintained throughout the response, justifying a solid band score in this category.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'public interest', 'consumer', 'promoted', 'privacy', and 'public interference'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with varying degrees of success, such as 'day-to-day lives' and 'public interference'. There are occasional slight inaccuracies in word choice or phrasing, such as 'capture their moments' instead of 'capture their daily lives' or 'candid moments', but these do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, supporting a competent level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or concessive clauses ('While some believe this is a good practice, I believe...', 'Although this helps photographers...'). There is good control over basic grammar and punctuation. While minor errors appear—such as 'actor Daniel wore' omitting his surname or title naturally, and occasional awkward phrasing—the majority of simple sentences are error-free, and complex structures do not cause severe comprehension difficulties. Punctuation is used correctly to separate clauses, and the overall grammatical control fits comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor.
