Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the era of social media, it is mandatory for celebrities and other well known persons to expanding fan following by posting about their life through photographers. Some people thought this the good way to introduce themselves to the public while other thought it is not good for their privacy and personal life due to some circumstances. this essay will discussing about both the views followed by my opinion.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people consider photographing celebrities to be beneficial. Firstly, the public is naturally interested in the personal and professional lives of famous individuals. Photographs can give fans an insight into their lifestyles, fashion choices, social activities and upcoming projects. For instance, photographs of actors attending film events or musicians performing at public venues can keep their followers informed about their careers. Secondly, the media and photographers play an important role in the entertainment industry. Celebrity photographs are widely published in magazines, newspapers and online platforms, which creates employment for photographers and generates revenue for media companies.

On the other hand, continuously following famous people can have serious disadvantages. The most significant concern is the violation of privacy. Celebrities may be well-known, but they still have the right to spend time with their families and enjoy their personal lives without being constantly monitored. Moreover, aggressive photographers may follow celebrities to private locations or capture photographs without their consent. This can cause considerable stress and make public figures feel unsafe. For example, taking photographs of a celebrity while they are spending time with family members or dealing with a personal problem can be both intrusive and unethical. Therefore, there should be a clear distinction between reporting on someone's public activities and interfering in their private life.

In conclusion, although photographing famous people can satisfy public criosity , following them constantly can serious undermine their privacy. I believe that photographers should respect reasonable boundries and on;y capturing celebrities when they are in public activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of paparazzi photography, while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. The main ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the first body paragraph clearly details why the public is interested in celebrity lives and how media revenue is generated, while the second body paragraph thoughtfully addresses privacy concerns and intrusive photography. However, there are some minor issues in the introduction, such as stating it is mandatory for celebrities to expand their fan following through photographers, which slightly distorts reality, and some minor spelling slips like 'criosity' and 'boundries'. Despite these minor flaws, the task is covered well, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided into coherent paragraphs, with an introduction, two well-developed body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover', which guide the reader smoothly through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a distinct central topic. Although referencing and referencing pronouns are mostly clear, minor mechanical errors in cohesion and punctuation (such as lowercase letters at the start of sentences and the typo 'on;y') keep this criterion at Band 6.5. Overall, the logical structure ensures the essay is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'intrusive', 'unethical', 'violation of privacy', and 'professional photographers'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'expanding fan following' instead of 'expand their fan following', 'criosity' instead of 'curiosity', and the awkward phrase 'posting about their life through photographers'. Word choice is sometimes slightly unnatural, but the errors do not impede communication. The lexical range is sufficient to allow flexibility and precision in places, but the frequency of spelling and collocation slips prevents the score from rising higher than a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with complex structures like 'Photographs can give fans an insight into their lifestyles...' and 'Although photographing famous people can satisfy public curiosity...'. However, there are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Some people thought this the good way' (tense and article error), 'this essay will discussing about both the views' (modal verb error and incorrect preposition), and punctuation/capitalisation errors like 'this essay' at the beginning of a sentence. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur with enough frequency to position this performance comfortably within the Band 6.0 descriptor.
