Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a debatable issue whether the expert photojouranlists should follow the popular figures everywhere as the pubic wants to know about them or whether it is bad to stalk well-known personalities. Although public might show some interest in personal life of celebrities, I believe that photographers should respect the privacy of famous people, and they should not be followed everytime.

Proponents, who support the idea of taking photographes of popular personalities at everywhere they go, argue that these people are usually acts as role models for public. Thus, public have a right to know about the everyday happening in their role models' life. If skilled photographers keep clicking the pictures of celebrities, they can help to demonstrate the real personalities of them in front of the community. Moreover, by positing about the social contribution of these famous people, people could be more motivated to become benefical members of society because these popular personalities can easily influence the public.

On the other hand, opponents believe that professional cameramen should not follow celebrities everywhere owing to the right of privacy. This is because everyone in this world should have the right of privacy, and it could affect their private moments. Celebrities also have some personal relations and works that they do not feel comfortable to share with public. For example, some popular people might like somking but they do not like to tell the public about as it might not only affect the personality of them among public but also can negatively influence the public to do smoking. Therefore, well-known people cannot enjoy their private moments.

To conclude, however photographers like to take the pictures of popular people everytime because of the keen interest of public, in my opinion celebrities should also have the right to enjoy their personal moments with their family or near ones without any kind of disturbance. Hence, photographers need to understand the value of privacy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the public's interest and the right to privacy—and clearly presents the writer's own opinion from the introduction through to the conclusion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-extended. For instance, the first body paragraph explores the concept of role models and the public's desire to understand them, while the second body paragraph addresses privacy rights and personal boundaries. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize or rely on slightly weak examples, such as the mention of smoking, which slightly limits the depth of development. Overall, the task is fulfilled to a Band 6.5 or 7 level, with a clear position maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. It is divided into four standard paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing viewpoints, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional minor awkwardness in phrasing slightly interrupts the flow. This performance aligns well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proponents', 'beneficial members', 'professional cameramen', and 'personality'. However, there are notable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'photojouranlists' instead of photojournalists, 'everytime' instead of every time, and 'positing' instead of posting. Word choice is sometimes unnatural, such as 'taking photographes of popular personalities at everywhere they go'. While communication is never impeded, these inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands, placing this firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses like 'Although public might show some interest...' and 'If skilled photographers keep clicking...'. There is good control of basic structures, but frequent grammatical errors occur, particularly with article usage ('the pubic', 'in personal life of celebrities', 'at everywhere they go'), prepositions, and minor subject-verb agreements. Punctuation is generally acceptable. Because errors are noticeable and occur regularly within complex structures, the writing fits the Band 6 descriptor well.
