Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that renowned actors, actresses and influential individuals are followed by professional photographers everywhere. The photos takes by these photographers are then published on social media platforms, newspapers or TV channels. While some people consider this a positive trend as such famous personalities are usually followed by a huge population, others don't consider it correct. This essay will explain views of the both group of people, and how balanced approach is the way forward to regularize the work of such photographers.

People usually follow famous personalities because of their work in their respective fields. These photographers provide viewers insights into the daily life and work of these personalities. For example, someone who likes a fashion designer for his work in fashion industry, would be interested to know the projects on which his aspired designer is working on, or what kind of clothes he/she puts on in his actual life. Similarly, people who are inclined towards politics would love to see the photographs of the daily activities of their favored politicians, so that they gauge the political environment accordingly.

However, this has also been observed that photographers mostly breach privacy, as many famous personalities has been noticed stopping photographer to take their photographs while they were having personal time with their families. Moreover, photographs of famous personalities create a sense of inadequacy among viewers. People start trying to copy famous people based on such photos; this create an atmosphere of undeclared competition. Furthermore, these photographs create a gap between famous people and normal individuals. Famous people try to avoid common people as photographers would just pop in at such places and start taking photos.

In conclusion, photos of famous personalities help to raise awareness related to their new projects and ventures; however, this comes at the cost of privacy breach, and psychological inferiority complex among viewers. Therefore, a balanced approach should be advised whereby such photographers are regularized to not breach personal space, and follow personalities only for their work, and not for social personal life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on paparazzi culture and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The writer presents relevant arguments for why people are interested in famous figures, such as insights into their daily lives and professional projects. The counterarguments addressing privacy breaches, psychological pressures, and social inequality are also well-developed and supported with logical explanations. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay. Although some ideas could be explored with even greater depth to reach the highest band, the task is fully addressed in line with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the body paragraphs discussing the pros and cons, and finally to a balanced conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'While some people', 'For example', 'However', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to connect ideas, though occasional referencing is slightly mechanical (e.g., 'this has also been observed'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument. Overall, the structural flow facilitates easy reading and fully meets the criteria for a Band 7 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, incorporating less common lexical items such as 'renowned', 'inclined towards', 'psychological inferiority complex', and 'regularize'. There are a few noticeable vocabulary and collocation errors, such as 'photos takes' instead of 'taken', 'aspired designer' instead of 'aspiring designer', and 'social personal life' rather than 'private social life'. However, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly, and errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses, conditional ideas, and subordinate structures effectively. There are instances of good grammatical control, but also several noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'views of the both group of people, and how balanced approach' (missing articles) and 'many famous personalities has been noticed stopping photographer' (subject-verb agreement and pluralization errors). Punctuation is generally sound, and while errors persist, they rarely impede overall communication. The writing aligns well with the descriptors for Band 6.0.
