IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary society, celebrities are followed everywhere by paparazzi to take candid pictures of their daily lives. To click a single picture they go to any extent and sometimes get humiliated by their bodyguards. This essay will analyze whether clicking personal moments of an influential individuals is right or wrong.

This is the era of social media, where people get the information through social platforms and believe without verifying the news. A number of professional photographers follow prominent figures everywhere and for that they wait outside their house or restaurants for hours just to get a single click, so that they can post that on their social media account and get likes and comments.

A significant number of individuals believe that there is no harm in that as they get insight of their favorite public figure. Moreover, some of them are so obsessed that they spent hours on stalking them. Those people believe that famous people do not have personal life and treat them as a public property, They assume it is their right that they know each and every thing about their favorite celebrity.

On the other hand, another group of people believe that it is completely unethical to follow well-known personalities everywhere. They are humans too and need private time for themselves. By following them and clicking their pictures without their consent is not acceptable. Every individual has a good or bad day and every time expecting them to entertain the people is immoral. Sometimes, these influential individuals suffer mental health because of being followed and recorded everywhere.

In my perspective, paparazzi should give space to public figures so that they can also live a normal life. They should treat them like a normal human being and ask them first if they are comfortable for photographs or not as mutual respect is everything. They also deserve freedom where they can do whatever they want without being judge by anyone.

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'contemporary society,' 'paparazzi,' 'candid pictures,' and 'unethical.' There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though occasional word choice and collocation inaccuracies occur, such as 'influential individuals suffer mental health' instead of 'suffer from mental health issues' and 'without being judge' instead of 'judged.' Nevertheless, vocabulary errors do not impede communication, and meaning is conveyed effectively throughout the piece.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or relative clauses ('This is the era of social media, where people get the information...').
