Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that photographing celebrities is a good thing due to public interest and that it is an invasion of privacy—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The student makes valid points regarding public interest, fashion updates, and the potential negative impacts on personal freedom and safety. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and constrained by numerous linguistic errors. While the main arguments are identifiable and relevant, the lack of thorough explanation and extension prevents the response from achieving a higher band score. The position is stated from the beginning and maintained throughout the essay, meeting the core requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing the opposing views, a personal opinion paragraph, and a conclusion. This shows a basic organizational structure. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and mechanical or missing cohesive devices, such as 'Nowadays', 'On the One hand', and 'On the Other hand', which are sometimes applied incorrectly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is often compromised by disjointed sentences and unclear relationships between ideas. Cohesion is therefore faulty at times, placing the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that impede clear communication. Examples include 'activties distube them', 'celebritie chosse', 'sinle new updated', 'aggrasively', 'Boundries', and 'setisfy'. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'popularity', 'privacy', and 'entertainment industry', but these are often marred by incorrect forms or spelling mistakes (e.g., 'entaiment', 'aggrasively'). The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for expressing simple ideas, but the high density of errors restricts the score to a Band 4.5 or 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and awkward attempts at complex sentences that are consistently faulty. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'they like to publicity everywhere .they want live update photo', 'photogrphing famous individual is', and 'photographer should respect Boundries , taking photo in public event is reasonble'. Punctuation is particularly weak, with spaces placed incorrectly before punctuation marks and run-on sentences. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over basic grammatical structures.
