Student answer (Band 6.0)

Paparazzi follow celebrities constantly. Some people support it due to public interest while others condemn it as invasion. This essay will discuss both views.

One of the reasons popular people are constantly followed by professional photographer is public demand. Fans love celebrities, Some make them their role model. This results to frequent anticipation to see their lifestyles and fashion. Again, It benefits celebrities by giving them publicity to stay famous and make substantial earnings. In addition, it contributes to economic growth of the country by creating job opportunities for photographers. For example, fans are always anticipating to see davido's latest outfit.

In contrary, these paparazzi some times violates human right by invading the privacy of some celebrities, Even when they are in their vulnureable state. Famous people deserves privacy like every other person. They shouid be able to spend time with their families, go shopping and go some personal errands without being chase by some paparazzi and group of fans. Furthermore, Children of famous people most times have a mental breakdown beacuse of the popularity of their parents especially the ones that fears being on the spotlight. For instance, Davido's son died in a pool while they wre trying to teach him how to swim and take pictures for thr media.

In my opinion, although fans are always curious, privacy should be respected. celebrities can be photographed at public events and premeres but not when they are at home , in church or even in their vulnurable state.

In conclusion, Public interest does not justify harassment, there should be limit. Again, children of celebrities should not be force to the spotlight.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on paparazzi and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer explains arguments supporting paparazzi, such as public demand, economic growth, and celebrity publicity, as well as arguments against, such as the invasion of privacy and the emotional toll on children. Ideas are generally extended and supported with relevant, albeit specific and personal, examples like the mention of the musician Davido. However, some arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed, particularly in the conclusion where points are reiterated rather than synthesised. The position remains clear throughout the essay. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 performance, where all parts of the prompt are covered with relevant ideas, though development could be more thorough.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion logically. Each body paragraph has a distinct focus, discussing either the supporting or opposing view, followed by the personal opinion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'In contrary' is inaccurate and should be 'By contrast' or 'On the contrary'. Referencing and logical connectors are at times basic or slightly misused, such as 'Again, It benefits' and 'Furthermore, Children of famous people most times...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels abrupt due to punctuation and mechanical linking errors. This performance aligns well with Band 6 descriptors, where the arrangement is coherent overall, but cohesive devices show some inaccuracy and lack seamless integration.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'invasion', 'publicity', 'substantial earnings', and 'economic growth'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'vulnureable' instead of vulnerable, 'shouid' instead of should, 'premeres' instead of premieres, and 'force' instead of forced. Collocations and word forms also show occasional inaccuracies, such as 'results to' instead of 'results in' and 'do some personal errands' instead of 'run some personal errands'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the meaning remains clear. The lexical range is sufficient to convey the writer's ideas, fitting a Band 6 level where an adequate vocabulary is used with some inaccuracies in spelling and word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., 'especially the ones that fears being on the spotlight'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'Famous people deserves' (deserve), 'go some personal errands' (go on or run), 'be chase' (be chased), and problems with capitalization and comma splices ('Fans love celebrities, Some make them...'). Additionally, agreement errors like 'children... most times have a mental breakdown' and spelling-related grammatical issues persist. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. This represents a typical Band 5.5 to 6.0 profile, where simple structures are handled with control, but complex structures introduce frequent errors.
