Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent years, high-profile individuals have increasingly been photographed by independent photographers wherever they go. While some argue this is positive because the public is eager to learn more about celebrity lives, others believe that tracking famous people is an invasion of privacy. Personally, I strongly believe that celebrities have a right to privacy and photographers should not follow them relentlessly.

On the one hand, proponents argue that constant media coverage satisfies a genuine public demand. Propernents of this view believe that high-profile individuals are public figures whose careers rely heavily on public attention and support. Consequently, the public naturally feels a strong curiosity about they daily habits, fashion choices, and personal lifestyles. Photographing these celebrities allows fans to feel a closer connection to their role models, which ultimately helps maintain the celebrities' frame and relevance. Therefore, from this persepective, media attention is simply a necessary byproduct of choosing a life in the spotlight.

On the other hand, I agree with those who argue that tracking famous people everywhere is a severe violation of their fundamental human rights. Even though celebrities choose public careers, they still deserve a private boundary when they are not working. Being followed relentelessly by paparazzi creates immense psychological stress and anxiety for public figures and their families. Furthermore, this aggressive pursuit can lead to dangerous situations, such a reckless car chases or physical confrontations. Forcing people to live under constant surveillance simply to satisfy public curiosity is entirely unethical.

In conclusion, while the public's desire to stay connecte with their favorite celebrities drives the demand for professional photographs, this interest should never override basic human rights. In my opinion, the relentless stalking of public figures is an unacceptable breach of privacy, and stricter boundaries must be enforced to protect them when they are off-stage.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response fully addresses all parts of the task. The introduction clearly acknowledges both views regarding celebrity photography (public interest versus invasion of privacy) and immediately states the writer's personal opinion. The body paragraphs effectively explore both sides of the argument: the first body paragraph discusses the positive view that media coverage satisfies public demand and maintains fame, while the second body paragraph argues compellingly against the invasion of privacy and the dangers of paparazzi. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, and the ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant reasoning, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The ideas are grouped logically into distinct paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by two well-balanced body paragraphs exploring opposing views, and finishing with a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although some transitional phrases like 'persepective' show minor mechanical use. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, reflecting solid Band 7 competence.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, using less common items such as 'high-profile individuals', 'fundamental human rights', 'psychological stress', and 'aggressive pursuit'. There are a few spelling and typographical errors, such as 'Propernents' instead of proponents, 'they daily habits' instead of their daily habits, 'persepective' instead of perspective, 'relentelessly' misspelled as 'relentelessly' in one instance, and 'connecte' instead of connected. However, these minor errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary is adequate to convey precise meanings, easily earning a Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

The writer uses a variety of complex sentence structures effectively, such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'While some argue this is positive because...', 'Even though celebrities choose public careers, they still deserve...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, alongside a few minor mechanical slips like the pronoun error 'they daily habits' and the spelling issues noted under lexical resource. Punctuation and grammatical control are generally good throughout the essay, demonstrating a solid command of complex structures consistent with Band 7 descriptors.
