Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

Nowadays celebrities are being followed by professional photographs as public are keen to know about their lifestyles. Others believe that photographers should not follow these famous figures. In my opinion they should focus on other issues which I will explain in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, photographing famous individuals is liked by most of the public because people are interested in their lives as how they live their lifestyle, what they eat and what they wear in their special events. Therefore, professional photographers publish all those information to local public as local public

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The opening identifies both views: the public’s interest in celebrities and the belief that photographers should not follow them. You also signal a position by saying photographers “should focus on other issues.” However, the response stops before explaining the opposing view or developing your own argument, and the example about what celebrities eat or wear only briefly explains public interest. The task requires discussion of both sides and a reasoned opinion, so these elements are addressed only minimally. The response also does not meet the 250-word minimum, which leaves the main ideas and supporting reasons substantially incomplete. To improve, explain why some people consider celebrity coverage entertaining or informative, then discuss privacy, safety, or harassment and support your opinion with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by “To begin with,” which signals the first supporting point. The ideas in that paragraph are related to public curiosity, so the reader can follow the general direction. However, the response ends mid-thought at “as local public,” and there is no completed development, contrasting paragraph, or conclusion. The repeated reference to “local public” also does not create a clear link between ideas. Use a complete paragraph for each view, connect them with clear transitions such as “On the other hand,” and finish with a concise conclusion that restates your position. Completing this progression would make the organisation more coherent and purposeful.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “professional photographers,” “famous figures,” “public,” and “lifestyles,” and it attempts to express the idea of public curiosity. However, several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “professional photographs” refers to images rather than people, and “publish all those information” is not a natural expression. “Local public” is repeated and does not clearly describe the audience. The range is also narrow, with repeated use of “public,” “famous,” and “lives.” Build a more precise set of terms for both sides of the debate, such as “privacy,” “media coverage,” “intrusive pursuit,” and “public interest,” and check collocations when using them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “In my opinion they should focus on other issues which I will explain…” and the list of questions about celebrities’ lives. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement are noticeable. In “as public are keen,” the article is missing; “as how they live their lifestyle” combines structures awkwardly; and “all those information” has a plural determiner with an uncountable noun. The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “as local public.” Aim for complete sentences with one clear clause relationship, and check articles, agreement, and countable versus uncountable nouns. A wider range of accurately controlled structures would strengthen the response.
