Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the contemporary world, there has been a rising trend of photographing famous people. While some people believe that it is a good thing to photograph celebrities, others, dispute this notion. This essay will discuss both views in detail and argue that paparazzi must not breach the privacy of famous people by taking excessive photographs of them.
Proponents of the view that famous people must be photographed contend that these public figures influence the lives of the general public in a variety of ways. As many people idealize them, they tend to imitate their lifesyles and fashion sense. For instance, I have always liked the dressing sense of Aishwariya Rai and I try to copy her style of donning a a saree on special events. Moreover, filming the personal lives of renowned personalities gives content to media houses. Since public is curious to know about the lives of these people, they like to watch such content which subsequently increases the TRPs of these shows. To illustrate, there was an Indian show called the Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, which portrayed daily routines of high-profile Indian actors. Me and my sister loved watching it, as it was a good source of entertainment. Moreover, this show had an IMDb rating of 8.5 which depicts how much people are interested in the personal lives of celebrities.
Conversely, paparazzi must not be too intrusive in the lives of well-known people. After all, famous people are also humans, and they have every right to protect their privacy. Media coverage does not mean that famous people must be followed at every single place. For instance, it is highly insensitive of media to film celebrities while crying at funerals. They should learn to respect their privacy on such occasions. In my opinion, it is very important that photographers must not cross their limits while capturing the lives of eminent personalities.
In conclusion, although public demand encourages paparazzi to film the lives of famous people, excessive intrusion in their lives must be avoided. I firmly assert that famous people also have a right to safeguard their privacy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both perspectives and gives a consistent opinion: public interest can justify celebrity coverage, but photographers should not invade privacy. The examples about Aishwarya Rai’s clothing and the television programme make the first view relevant, while filming people at funerals supports the opposing view. However, the discussion is not equally developed: the benefits of celebrity coverage receive several explanations, whereas the privacy argument is mainly illustrated by one situation. The claim that an IMDb rating demonstrates public interest could also be explained more carefully, since a rating alone does not show how many people watched the programme. To strengthen the response, develop the consequences of intrusive photography and clarify when public interest might justify coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates the writer’s position. Transitions such as “Moreover,” “Conversely,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. The main ideas are generally grouped appropriately, although the first body paragraph combines celebrity influence, fashion imitation, media revenue, and entertainment, making it somewhat crowded. Repeated references to “famous people” and “lives” also make the linking feel less flexible, and “Moreover” is used twice in the same paragraph. A clearer separation of the reasons supporting public interest, alongside more varied referencing and transitions, would make the progression smoother and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “proponents,” “idealize,” “intrusive,” “media coverage,” and “safeguard their privacy.” These choices communicate the argument clearly, and the writer attempts some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “a rising trend of photographing,” “the dressing sense,” and “donning a a saree.” “TRPs” may also be unclear to an international reader without explanation. There is a spelling error in “lifesyles,” and repeated use of “famous people” and “lives” limits variety. More natural collocations and precise alternatives—for example, “growing practice of photographing” and “fashion sense”—would improve fluency and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The essay includes a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses beginning “While,” “As,” and “Since,” as well as the conditional construction “although public demand encourages…” Most sentences are understandable, and grammatical errors do not obstruct the argument. Some errors remain, however: “others, dispute this notion” has an unnecessary comma, “their lifesyles” contains an incorrect plural form, and “Me and my sister loved watching it” uses an unsuitable subject form. The phrase “a a saree” also contains a repeated article. There is some control of longer sentences, but greater accuracy in pronouns, articles, punctuation, and sentence editing would be needed for more consistent grammatical control.
