IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, popular celebrities are photographed everywhere they visit, however, many people believes that filming celebrities is a good thing as their fans can be updates every minutes about what is happening in their lives but somehow, other people thinks opposite. I really disagree with the opinion of photographing them everywhere, but , i would discuss both the perspective in upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, being a fan or suppoter, everyone wants to know what is happening in the life of their favourite one and photographers help them to get every second detail for clicking their pictures everywhere and notifying the fans that how their favourite celebrities are spending their time. Moreover, they also can differentiate between the reel and real life of celebrity as in old times, many people trust that everything appearing on screen is real but with the help of this fast techonlogy now youth can differentiate between false action and real actions.

On the other hand, some people contradict this thought as celebrities also have their personal life and being shoot everywhere becomes sometime very annoying. Many celebrities wants to have some space between their personal and professional life , however photographers take away their chance of being themselves in the world and they always have to act smiling and happy in front of them and even sometime they donot want to pretend happy but they have to because they donot want their fans would feel dissappointed.

In conclusion, I would conclude that by saying that everyone deservers the space between personal and professional life eventhough it is our favourite personality , so everyone should repect the privacy of famous celebrity and should not be photographed everywhere without their permissions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your position clear: you disagree with photographers following celebrities and conclude that privacy should be respected. The paragraph supporting public interest gives relevant reasons, such as fans wanting updates and distinguishing screen performances from real life. The opposing view is also explained through celebrities’ need for personal space and the pressure to appear happy. However, some points are not fully developed: the claim that photographs help young people distinguish “false action and real actions” is unclear, and the discussion would be stronger with a specific example or a fuller explanation of when public interest might justify coverage. Overall, the response covers the task, but the two sides are not equally clear or well supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from public interest to privacy concerns is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, and long sentences joined by “but,” “as,” and “however” make relationships between ideas less clear. For example, the opening sentence contains several points at once. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing so that each paragraph develops one main idea smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “personal life,” “professional life,” “privacy,” and “photographers.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “contradict this thought” and “differentiate between,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and occasionally make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “updates every minutes,” “their favourite one,” and “being shoot everywhere.” Spelling errors such as “suppoter,” “techonlogy,” and “deservers” are noticeable, while repeated use of “celebrities,” “fans,” and “life” limits variety. Aim for more accurate collocations and check spelling; this will make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “but,” and “however,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “many people believes” and “some people thinks” have subject–verb agreement errors; “their fans can be updates” has an incorrect verb form; and “celebrities wants” and “being shoot” show problems with agreement and passive structure. Punctuation also needs attention: the opening sentence is a run-on, and spacing around commas is inconsistent. Practise building accurate complex sentences, then check agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
