Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, public figures like celebrities, players and other successful businessmen are getting papped everywhere without any consent about their privacy. There is an ongoing debate whether this photography is a good thing as it general public is always interested in their lives, however, some feel that it is a wrong activity as they are also humans and need some privacy in their life. This essay will discuss both the views and also explain why I support the latter view.

On the one hand, these public figures have earned a larger amount of fanbase, as a result people get fascinated with them and get curiousity for there personal life. Many cameramen or media prefer to take advantage of such scenarios. Hence, wherever these people visit, they are blindly followed in order to capture and generate content on social media. This provides people happiness and informatIon about their favourite celebrity apart from their work. For example, many celebrities are papped at the airports, which makes public informed in advance, which makes them excited for that celebrity's upcoming project or trip. Moreover, how they carry themselves in personal life also gives people inspiration for outfits and fashion.

On the other hand, these celebrities are also normal people like us who deserve privacy, quiet family time and going out in the public places without any bothering. Whereas, when media keeps invading their personal lives, it becomes frustrating and anxious for them. For instance, it has been noticed that many famous people have to cover their faces with masks in order to step out, which takes their right of freedom. In addition to this, such photographs of them travelling, gives some rivals benefits and gence, they can either kidnap them or harm them by knowing their exact location.

To conclude, I believe that privacy of every individual must be respected. Before taking photographs, a gentle permission must be taken, hence only if they agree to pose, then only pictures should be posted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both perspectives and make your own position clear: the introduction says you support the view that photographers should respect celebrities’ privacy, and the conclusion reinforces this. Both sides receive relevant support, including public interest in celebrities’ fashion and the risks of revealing their location. These examples help extend the discussion rather than merely listing opinions. The airport example, however, makes a broad claim that photographs inform the public and create excitement, without explaining why this benefit justifies intrusive photography. The safety point is also asserted rather than illustrated with a specific or carefully qualified example. To strengthen the response further, develop these points with more precise reasoning and distinguish public interest from a genuine public need to know.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion stating your opinion. The progression from public fascination to privacy and safety concerns is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the organisation clear. You also use linking expressions to develop points, including “Moreover” and “In addition to this.” At times, however, connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear: “which makes public informed in advance” does not clearly explain what the public is informed about, and “hence” in the conclusion does not express the relationship naturally. Use cohesive devices more selectively and make links between claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “public figures,” “invading their personal lives,” “privacy,” and “inspiration for outfits and fashion.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “earned a larger amount of fanbase,” “get curiousity for there personal life,” and “gives people happiness.” There are also spelling or form errors, including “curiousity,” “there” for “their,” “informatIon,” and “gence.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Build accuracy by learning common collocations and checking spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a contrastive opening, a conditional construction (“if they agree to pose”), and clauses introduced by “which” and “as a result.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “whether this photography is a good thing as it general public is always interested” has a faulty clause structure, while “many famous people have to cover their faces … which takes their right of freedom” has an unclear relative-clause connection. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence construction, as in “in the public places” and “such photographs … gives.” Aim to make complex sentences more controlled, and check that subjects, verbs, and clause links agree.
