Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task by summarizing the population data for New York City and its districts. You have identified the main trends, such as the overall growth and the shift in population distribution from Manhattan to the other districts. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, you mention the 1800 and 2000 figures but miss the opportunity to highlight the significant growth in the 1900s or the specific trends within the individual districts. The data interpretation is generally accurate, but more detailed comparisons between the districts would have strengthened the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'Moreover', and 'However'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'these ratio of percentages remain same'. The transition between the general population data and the district-specific data could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'lage inreased' (which contains a spelling error) and 'different ratio'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'ratio of population' when referring to percentages or total numbers. To improve, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'significant surge', 'proportion', or 'dramatic shift', rather than relying on repetitive or slightly imprecise phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'It is cleared that', 'It has least population', and 'these ratio of percentages remain same'. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
