Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task, including the total population and the specific district trends. You successfully identified the main features, such as the overall growth and the shifting dominance from Manhattan to the other districts. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you stated Manhattan's population saw a 'slight decline' from 1.5 million to 1.53 million, which is actually an increase. Additionally, the prompt refers to five districts, but your text occasionally refers to them as 'the other five districts' (implying six total). Despite these minor data errors, the overall summary is clear and provides a good overview of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the general trend to specific time periods. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast to previous trends' and 'Overall', which help the flow. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally confusing, such as the mention of 'the other five districts' when there are only four districts outside of Manhattan. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'drastically', 'sharply', and 'record'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'Manhatten' (Manhattan), 'previosu' (previous), 'slioght' (slight), and 'increaseed' (increased). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure consistent spelling of proper nouns and key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the population of New York is 79,216' (should be past tense 'was'), 'more than 75% of its from Manhattan' (missing 'population' or 'people'), and 'its total share of population is decreased' (incorrect passive voice). While these errors occur frequently, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. Improving your control over verb tenses and subject-verb agreement will significantly enhance your score.
