Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the overall population growth and referencing the district data. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the 1800 and 2000 figures, the reporting of the intermediate data is disjointed and lacks a clear comparative focus. The description of the percentage changes is confusing; for instance, the reference to '76%' and '19%' in Manhattan is not clearly linked to the provided data, making the information difficult to follow. To improve, ensure you select the most significant trends and compare them clearly rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression between sentences is often weak. The use of cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Besides this' feels somewhat mechanical and does not always serve to connect the ideas logically. The transition between the total population data and the district percentage data is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, focus on creating a smoother flow of information where each sentence builds logically upon the previous one, and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the rest of information') is precise.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several non-standard word choices, such as 'percentum' (instead of percentage), 'provinces' (when the prompt specifies districts), and '20 decades' (which is an awkward way to express 200 years). The range is limited, and the phrasing is often repetitive. To improve, work on using more academic collocations and ensure you use the terminology provided in the prompt correctly. Avoid inventing terms like 'percentum' and focus on accurate reporting of data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'The table charts depicts about total numbers of population had been changed' (incorrect verb tense and preposition usage) and 'only 19% of total people was witnessed' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of tenses when describing historical data.
