Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall population growth and the shifting percentages between Manhattan and the other districts. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have identified the key trends, but the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. Additionally, the data presentation is slightly disjointed, and the description of the 'other districts' is vague, as you did not explicitly name or detail the individual trends for the four districts mentioned in the prompt. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary paragraph and use more precise data points to support your comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow between sentences is often interrupted by mechanical errors and a lack of cohesive devices. For example, the transition between the first and second tables is abrupt. You rely on simple sentence structures, and the use of linking words like 'while' or 'and' is repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall progression of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You use repetitive phrasing such as 'the population is' and 'increased'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the dramatic decreased' (should be 'a dramatic decrease') and 'In start' (should be 'Initially'). To improve, try to incorporate more varied verbs and nouns related to data trends, such as 'surged', 'plummeted', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant proportion'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey the data more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'the population is' instead of 'was'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as the sentence starting with 'and the percentage'. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score. Try to proofread your work specifically for these common errors before submitting.
