Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the score. Because the text is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, it fails to address the task requirements, such as providing a clear overview or reporting on all the data provided in the tables. The information presented is limited to only one district, and the analysis is fragmented. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, including a summary of the main trends across all districts and the total population, while meeting the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear structure or logical progression. There is no paragraphing, and the text ends abruptly, which prevents the development of a coherent argument or report. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'But after it' and 'But after 100 years'. The lack of a clear introduction or overview makes it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparison of the data. Future responses should use clear paragraph breaks and linking words to connect ideas logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'increae' instead of 'increase' and 'ditricts' instead of 'districts'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe data trends effectively; for instance, using 'huge' is informal and imprecise for an academic report. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to statistics and trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a significant rise', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the new york city have'), incorrect verb tenses, and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods. The sentence structures are simple and often fragmented. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and punctuation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
