Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the population trends in New York City and its districts. However, the information is presented in a fragmented manner, and the analysis of the data is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the claim that 'Manhattan 19 fall in papulation' is unclear, and the comparison between Manhattan and the 'other districts' is poorly structured. While the main features are identified, the lack of clarity in reporting the figures and the failure to provide a coherent overview of the trends across the two centuries mean that the task is only partially addressed. The response lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often misused, such as 'After a Centuary letter' and 'In that Para graph talk about'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the districts. The structure is mechanical, and the lack of effective linking words between sentences and paragraphs hinders the flow of information. To improve, focus on using transition signals to connect ideas more logically and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Papulation' instead of 'population', 'Centuary' instead of 'century', and 'gonna' which is too informal for an academic task. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. Phrases like 'more highly increase' are awkward and do not accurately describe the statistical trends. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends, such as 'significant growth', 'declined', or 'proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people lives'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty or ungrammatical, such as 'Mostly Bronx , Queens , Staten Island, Brooklyn less increase where as, Manhattan district.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verbs agree with their subjects and are used in the correct tense.
