Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to accurately interpret the data provided. The student incorrectly identifies the trends, stating that the population was higher in 1800 than in 2000, which contradicts the provided tables. Furthermore, the description of the district data is confusing and lacks a clear summary of the main features. The attempt to calculate percentages and averages is inaccurate and does not reflect the actual information presented in the tables. The response lacks a clear overview and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the years or the districts, resulting in a failure to address the core requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical organization and progression. The sentences are disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as the awkward transition 'However from the first table'. Paragraphing is absent, making the text difficult to follow. The referencing is unclear, particularly when discussing the districts, and the overall structure does not guide the reader through the data in a logical manner. The lack of clear paragraph breaks and the repetitive nature of the phrasing significantly hinder the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'statical' instead of 'statistical', 'reffers' instead of 'refers', and 'onthewhole' written as one word. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing data, relying on basic and often incorrect descriptors. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately, and the misuse of terms like 'percentage' when referring to raw population numbers further demonstrates a lack of control over the necessary lexical items for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and fragments. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods, and capitalization is erratic. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, such as 'overall we will found' and 'all districts population is similar'. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, poorly constructed sentences. These persistent errors make the text difficult to read and understand, reflecting a lack of control over basic grammatical rules.
