The first table below shows changes in the total population of New York City from 1800 to 2000. The second and third tables show changes in the population of the five districts of the city (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island) over the same period.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The tables show changes in the population of New York City and its five districts between 1800 and 2000.
Overall, the population of New York City increased dramatically over the period. However, while Manhattan experienced a decline in population after 1900, the other four districts continued to grow substantially. There was also a major shift in the distribution of the city's population away from Manhattan towards the other districts.
In 1800, New York City had a total population of 79,216, of whom 60,515 lived in Manhattan. This meant that Manhattan accounted for 76% of the city's population, while the other four districts contained only 18,701 people, or 24%. By 1900, Manhattan's population had risen considerably to 1,850,093, although its share of the total population had fallen to 54%.
By 2000, Manhattan's population had decreased to 1,538,096, representing just 19% of New York City's total population. In contrast, the population of the other four districts increased dramatically from 18,701 in 1800 to 1,587,109 in 1900, before reaching 6,471,089 in 2000. Consequently, their share of the city's total population rose steadily from 24% to 46% and then to 81%. Meanwhile, the total population of New York City increased from just 79,216 in 1800 to 8,009,185 in 2000.
