Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the introduction attempts to outline the data, the body paragraphs are severely underdeveloped. The response provides only a few isolated figures and fails to report the main features or make meaningful comparisons across the five districts over the two-century period. The analysis is incomplete, and the conclusion is missing. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are covered, including a clear overview of trends and a detailed comparison of the data provided in all tables.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear logical structure. There is no clear paragraphing, and the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'moreover'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific data comparisons, using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'orher' instead of 'other', 'popoulation' instead of 'population', and 't0' instead of 'to'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe data trends effectively; for example, 'increases' is used without specifying the degree or nature of the change. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary for describing data, such as 'significant growth', 'dramatic rise', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. Additionally, ensure you proofread your work to correct basic spelling and capitalization errors, such as 'new york city' which should be 'New York City'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction and the fragmented phrasing in the second paragraph. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on constructing complete, grammatically correct sentences. Practice using a mix of simple and complex structures, and pay close attention to basic rules like capitalization of proper nouns and correct verb forms when discussing past data.
