Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify key figures, the interpretation of the data is sometimes inaccurate, such as mislabeling the 1800s as the '18th century' and misinterpreting the percentage changes. The summary is incomplete as the final sentence is cut off, and the overview is missing a clear synthesis of the trends. To improve, ensure you accurately identify time periods and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends (e.g., the overall growth of NYC and the shifting distribution between Manhattan and the other districts) in the introduction or as a separate paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'After the past of century' and 'consequently the growth of people raised' are used awkwardly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending of the final paragraph significantly impacts the coherence of the response. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would help improve the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'population', 'increased', and 'people'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'illastrate' (spelling), 'indiviuals', and 'discribed'. The use of 'ratio' to describe raw population numbers is inaccurate. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', 'proportion', or 'accounted for', and ensure correct spelling throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on simple sentence structures with frequent grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This table illastrate', 'The first table discuss'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of spaces before commas and parentheses. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
