IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The first table below shows changes in the total population of New York City from 1800 to 2000. The second and third tables show changes in the population of the five districts of the city (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island) over the same period.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given tabular char provides the information about the changes in total population of New York City from 1800 to 2000. The other two tabular charts give information about changes in the population of five districts of the city oves same time span.
It is clearly seen that in the year 1800 total population of NewYork was 79216 which contain 60515 population from Manhattan district only which iwas 76% of total and rest 18701 population was from other 4 districts.
In year 1900, the total population of New York was increased increadibly and went up to 3,437,202 in total with 54% from only Manhattan district which was 1,850,093 in numbers and the rest 46% population was from other districts.
Finally, in 2000 a significant increase was seen in total population of New York which was more than double compared to last given year, 8,009,185. Surprisingly, contibution of Manhattan district was less only 19% (1,538,096) population was from it and the left 81% which was 6,471,089 in numbers was from other ditricts.
Overall, population of New York increase increadibly in given three centuries and in first two centuries most contribution in total population was from only Manhattan district whereas in last given century it contribute far less.
