Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by reporting some information from the tables, such as the population of Manhattan and the other districts in 1800, 1900, and 2000. However, the coverage is only partial and lacks clarity. For instance, the overview provided in the first paragraph is confusing and inaccurate regarding the trends, stating incorrectly that the population was lowest in the year 2000. Furthermore, data points are frequently misread or expressed in a confused manner, such as the figures for the other districts. Key comparisons between the districts over the two-century period are inadequately developed, leading to a minimal and confused response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organization with paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Overall the disrict Menhattan has the gratest population' and 'Further more the other four district whic is comparatively'. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow which data points are being contrasted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed and repetitive, hindering the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, restricting the ability to discuss the visual data with precision. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'disrict', 'Menhattan', 'gratest', 'percebtage', 'comperatively', 'preveious', 'odf', and 'rreduced'. Word choices are often unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'different ratios of New York cities' instead of population figures, and 'reduced too much at the level of 19% only'. These lexical shortcomings and frequent spelling mistakes cause noticeable strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple structures with frequent errors when attempting more complex patterns. There are constant issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and prepositions, such as 'There are total five districts population which is mentioned' and 'the other four district whic is comparatively like small islands has population'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and commas used incorrectly. These frequent errors across basic and complex sentences cause persistent difficulty and occasionally distort the intended meaning.
