Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present the main trends from the tables, but contains several inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student states that the population in 1900 was 'dramatically increased to 3,437,202' and then claims that 'After the one year there was drastic inclined show in the population accounted at 8,009,185', which misinterprets the 100-year intervals between 1800, 1900, and 2000. Furthermore, the description of the district data is confused and difficult to follow, mixing up percentages and population numbers for Manhattan and the other districts (e.g., stating Manhattan had 19% in 2000 alongside other contradictory figures). While an overview is attempted at the end, it is vague and fails to clearly summarize the main features and comparisons required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organization with paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or mechanically used, such as 'Moving to the regions of the New york city namely as Manhttan and other districts, firstly' and 'om the other hand'. Referencing is also confusing, making it difficult for the reader to track whether percentages or population figures are being discussed in relation to specific districts. The flow between sentences is disjointed, and the concluding sentence merely repeats basic information rather than synthesizing the main trends effectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and heavily repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples of awkward phrasing and lexical errors include 'citizen lives', 'porportaion', 'diffrent', 'cleary observed', 'drastic inclined show', and 'presernt'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'dramatically increased' and 'percentages', but misuse of terms like 'country' instead of 'city' or 'district' demonstrates a restricted lexical range that struggles to adequately convey the specific data from the visual prompts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing exhibits a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'the highest number of the population present in 2000' (missing verb) and 'the lowest population in 1800year stood at... which was dramatically increased' (incorrect passive voice for an intransitive trend). Additionally, errors occur with prepositions ('lives in the New york city between', 'over the 20 years of time frame'), missing articles, and awkward clause structures like 'the lowest population in 1800year stood at 79,216 which was dramatically increased to 3,437,202 in 1900'.
