Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response presents an overview of the main trends shown in the tables, noting the overall population growth from 1800 to 2000 and providing specific data points for Manhattan and the other districts. However, the information is not always fully or accurately reported, and there are some confusions with dates and figures, such as stating that Manhattan's population was 60,515 thousand instead of absolute numbers. While key features are identified, the development of comparisons is limited, meaning the response only partially addresses all parts of the task in a clear, well-supported manner.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, and an overall summary is provided at the end. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices, such as the frequent use of 'and then', 'moreover', and 'in addition'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the internal flow within paragraphs lacks seamless transitions, resulting in an arrangement that feels somewhat disjointed rather than steadily progressive throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'rendered both table chart', 'demanded urban areas', and 'toatal poulation'. Word choices and collocations are often basic or inappropriate for academic writing. Spelling and word form errors occur regularly, which sometimes causes strain for the reader and prevents the response from achieving a higher level of lexical precision and range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple or faulty complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors, including incorrect verb tenses, subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the population sizes of all five districts was'), and missing or incorrect prepositions and articles. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reveal a lack of firm control over basic and complex grammatical forms.
