Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given three tables gives us information. The first table shows the population of five districts of New York city between the period of 1800 and 2000. Moreover, the second and thrid tables illustrates the change in population of five districts with precentage of total population over the same period.
By looking at the first table, it can be seen that the population was rose abruptly. In addition, there had been 79,216 human in the year 1800. There was incline of the population in the year 1900. The population reached approxmitely 3.5 crore. However, in the year 2000, the population increased around 5 crore.
Further looking at the second and thrid tables, it can be noticed that the population of the district Manhattan climbed till the year 1900. Moreover, in the year 2000, the popualtion was slight decline around thrity thousands which is small part of total population approx 19%. Furthermore, the table thrid shows the data of other districts such as Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Moreover, the population was constant rise throughout the period. In the year 1800, 1900, 2000 the population was around 24%, 46% and 81% of the total population respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad rise in New York City’s population and the shift in population share from Manhattan to the other districts, which are relevant main features. However, several figures are substantially inaccurate: the city total in 2000 was about 8 million, not around 5 crore, and Manhattan fell by about 312,000 between 1900 and 2000, not 30,000. The statement that the total “was rose abruptly” also does not clearly report the actual values. Your overview is limited, and the response does not clearly compare the city’s overall growth with the contrasting district trends. Report the key totals accurately and summarise the main change: Manhattan’s share declined while the other districts’ share rose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, discussion of the total population, discussion of the district figures, and a closing sentence. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear, and several linking expressions are repetitive or mechanical, particularly “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” The final sentence repeats the topic rather than providing a useful summary, while references such as “the second and thrid tables” are confusing because the tables are not clearly identified. Improve cohesion by grouping the overall figures together, then comparing Manhattan with the other districts, and finish with a concise overview. Use fewer, more precise transitions and clear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “population,” “percentage,” “district,” and “total,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “human” for people, “incline of the population,” and “give knowledge about.” Spelling errors—including “thrid,” “precentage,” “popualtion,” and “distnct”—also make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Choose standard language for describing data, such as “increased,” “accounted for,” and “population share,” and check spelling carefully. More accurate vocabulary would help you express comparisons without relying on repeated general phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few complex sentence forms, for example, “By looking at the first table, it can be seen that…” and “Furthermore, the table thrid shows…”. However, the range is limited, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include the agreement error “The given three tables gives,” the incorrect passive construction “the population was rose,” and the sentence fragment-like phrasing “There was incline of the population.” Articles and number expressions are also often missing or awkward, as in “had been 79,216 human.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and simple comparison structures before adding complexity. Aim for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and articles.
