Student answer (Band 5.0)
here we are provided with tabular data regarding different districts of new york city, so lets look at the first table where the data from 1800 to 2000 is present, in 1800 there was only population seventy nine thousand two hundered and twenty six were present after five decades this figure reached to milion of peoples, approximately 3.5 million people after another century this combination of indviduals touched the figure, that containns 80 lac and nine thousand and one hundered eighty five people it shows how population got doubled with the passage of time.
now in the second table examiner has given us about the data of mahattan district , in year 1800 to 2000 there seen a decline in the population enhancment , it started from 76 percent and ended up at ninteen percent. if wegive a glace to other districts then we can conclude another type of consecuences that tell us about the rise in the human generation initially 24 percent then got a bonus of 20 percent and reched 46 percent and then finally a group of homo sepiens shaped themselve to a gaint number with the excess of 40 percent more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad rise in New York City’s population and the changing shares of Manhattan and the other districts, so the response is relevant to the tables. However, the account is only partial and some key details are inaccurate or unclear. The total was 79,216 in 1800, not 79,226, and it rose to about 3.44 million in 1900 and 8.01 million in 2000; describing this as “doubled” is misleading, since the 2000 total was more than twice the 1900 figure. You report the percentage changes but omit that Manhattan’s population itself rose to 1,850,093 in 1900 before falling to 1,538,096, while the other districts grew substantially. Give a clear overview and select accurate figures to support it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it first discusses the citywide total, then Manhattan, and finally the other districts. Phrases such as “now in the second table” help signal this movement. However, the ideas are packed into two long, loosely connected paragraphs, and the progression is not consistently clear. The opening “here we are provided” is conversational rather than a focused introduction, while “if we give a glance” does not clearly connect the comparison that follows. Some linking language is repetitive or awkward, and the final sentence does not provide a clear concluding overview. Organise the response into a short introduction, a concise overview of the main trends, and focused detail paragraphs, using links such as “by contrast” only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
There is some attempt to vary vocabulary, including “decline,” “rise,” and “reached,” but word choice is often inaccurate or unsuitable for describing statistical data. Expressions such as “a bonus of 20 percent,” “human generation,” and “a group of homo sapiens” sound informal or inappropriate, and “population enhancement” does not clearly mean population change. Spelling errors, including “hunderd,” “indviduals,” and “consecuences,” also make the text harder to read. The vocabulary range is therefore limited in practical accuracy, despite attempts to use less common expressions. Prefer precise, conventional terms such as “population,” “proportion,” “increased,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to combine ideas in longer sentences, but these structures are often faulty, and control of basic sentence boundaries is inconsistent. For example, “in 1800 there was only population seventy nine thousand…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “after another century this combination of individuals touched the figure” is difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also unreliable: sentences begin with lowercase letters, and several clauses are joined with commas where full stops would be clearer. Tense and phrasing are not consistently controlled in “there seen a decline.” Use shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and practise accurate past-tense reporting, for example, “The city’s population rose from 79,216 in 1800 to 3.44 million in 1900.”
