Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table chart illustrate the change in total population over last two century of new york city and specifically show the difference in number of population between 5 districts(Manhattan,Brooklyn,Bronx,Queens,Staten island).

Overall, there is huge difference in total number of population in two century with highest growth rate from 1900 to 2000.Whiile,the contributionof total number of population Manhattan show highest number of contribution with76% in 1800 and this contribution shifted downword in 2000 with only 19%.similarly,Other 4 district of city contribute highest in 2000 with 81%.

If we look intro table chart of total population of new york city the number of population is least in 1800 while it grow enormously in 1900 with creating difference of almost 2.3 million and growth rate certanily increase in comming century difference of 4.3 million in numbers.

Furthermore, the chart of Manhattan is different from rest of four district as it contributed most in total number of population of city with 76% of total population. This number gradually decreases in comming century with share of 54%(1,850,093) and drop emencly in 2000 with share of only 19% of share in population.

In last, other four district share least percentage of total population with only 24% in 1800 and this number jump almost double in year 1900 with 46% of share and finally in 2000 with most number of population. In 2000 share of these 4 district with total number of population is 81%.So combingly this table increases with passage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You identify the main overall patterns: New York City’s population rose substantially, Manhattan’s share fell, and the other four districts’ share increased. The figures you give for the district shares—Manhattan at 76%, 54% and 19%, and the other districts at 24%, 46% and 81%—match the tables. You also compare the city’s growth across the two periods. However, some reporting is imprecise: the city’s population increased by about 3.36 million from 1800 to 1900 and 4.57 million from 1900 to 2000, rather than the stated differences of 2.3 and 4.3 million. The overview could also distinguish population totals from percentage shares more clearly, and note that Manhattan’s population itself fell after 1900 even as the city total continued to rise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the city total, Manhattan and the other districts. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “In last” signal movement between topics. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The overview repeats the idea of contribution without clearly separating population size from percentage share, while “So combingly this table increases with passage of time” does not make the intended comparison clear. Some sentences also contain several points joined together, making the progression harder to follow. Use more precise links and keep each sentence focused on one comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “contribution,” “share,” “gradually decreases” and “drop,” and you attempt to vary your wording rather than relying only on “increase.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise expressions such as “number of population” and “share in population.” Several word choices and spelling errors—“emencly,” “certanily,” “combingly” and “downword”—make parts of the report less clear and less academic in tone. Aim for standard data-reporting collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for totals, proportions and changes would help you describe the figures without repeating “number” or using “contribution” where “share” is intended.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “If we look intro table chart…” and “Furthermore, the chart of Manhattan is different from rest of four district as it contributed…”. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, tense and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to make some passages difficult to read. Examples include “The table chart illustrate,” “it grow enormously,” and “other four district share least percentage.” Commas and spaces are also often missing, and some sentences run together after full stops. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and use shorter sentences when comparing figures; then add subordinate clauses once the basic structure is secure.
