Student answer (Band 5.0)
There are different tables are which are presenting the data about population in Newyork's five district.Second table depics the data of Manhattan, where as rest of the districts where covered by last table, data of population revealed from 1800 to 2000.
Overall, after analysing the table it is clear that, maximum number of population were in 2000, hence minimum were in 1800 , while Manhattan contributed the most in population.
It is crystal clear that, population in year 1800 were approximately 80 thousand, while in 1900 it rose by 4 time to 1800; however in 2000 it was more then 8 lakh people.
Furthermore, In 1800 population was 60,515 as well as 18701 in Manhattan and other district of Newyork , respectively . Additionally, there were 20 thusand more people in Manhattan as compare to other districts. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad rise in New York City’s population and note that Manhattan had the largest share initially, which gives the response some relevant coverage. However, several key comparisons are missing or unclear, and some figures are misreported. The total population in 1900 was about 3.44 million, not a fourfold increase from 1800 (it was over forty times as large); in 2000 it was about 8 million, not “8 lakh.” Manhattan’s population fell from 1.85 million in 1900 to 1.54 million in 2000, while the other districts grew to 6.47 million and 81% of the total. The overview should foreground this shift in population share, rather than saying Manhattan contributed the most without specifying the year.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an overview, and two detail paragraphs, so there is an attempt to organise the information. However, the progression between points is difficult to follow: the final paragraph moves from 1800 figures to an unclear comparison of population in 2000 and 1900. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Additionally,” and “whereas” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the data accurately. For example, “in 1900 it was half of 2000” does not make clear whether this refers to population or percentage. Group the information by time period or by Manhattan versus the other districts, and use clear references such as “the city’s total” and “their combined share.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “contributed,” “revealed,” and “analysing,” but several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing tables. Phrases such as “number of masses,” “maximum number of population,” and “rose by 4 time” make the intended meaning harder to understand. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Newyork’s,” “depics,” “thusand,” and “percentange.” Use standard data-reporting language and precise units: for example, describe population as “the population stood at” a figure, and use “increased to” or “accounted for” when reporting changes and shares. This would make the limited range more effective and reduce ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You try to form longer sentences using connectors such as “while,” “however,” and “as well as,” but these structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “There are different tables are which are presenting,” “population … were,” and “as compare to,” where sentence structure, agreement, or grammatical form is incorrect. Commas are also often placed after introductory phrases without a clear sentence structure, as in “Overall, after analysing the table it is clear that,”. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one clear contrast or comparison. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, especially when reporting figures.
