Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water should be free for everyone because its is a fudamental right of every single human being and is also essential for human health. I strongly agree that providing free water can be benefical for all living people

Firstly, water is essential for everyone's life because people need it for drinking, cooking and staying healthy. However, poor families sometimes cannot afford to buy clean water every day. If the government provides free water, everyone can easily meet their basic needs. For example, poor families would be able to provide clean drinking water to their children without worrying about the cost. Therefore, free water can improve people's health and quality of life.

Secondly, providing free water can also help poor families save money. Many people have limited income and find it difficult to manage their daily expenses. If they do not have to pay for water, they can spend that money on other important things, such as food, education and clothes. For example, a poor family can use the money saved on water bills to buy healthy food for their children. As a result, free water can reduce the financial pressure on low-income families.

In conclusion, although some of charges may be necessary to maintain the water supply system, that I believe that clean drinking water should be free for everyone. This is because water is essential for human life and health. The government should ensure that every person, especially poor families, has access to safe drinking water without financial difficulties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central issue by explaining how free water could protect health and ease financial pressure on low-income households, with relevant examples involving children, food and household expenses. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. However, the discussion focuses mainly on benefits to poor families, while the claim that every home should receive water free of charge could be examined more fully. The brief concession about charges for maintaining the system is not developed: explain how this concern could be balanced with universal access, for example through public funding or targeted subsidies. More detailed development of that point would make the argument more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from health benefits to financial benefits is easy to follow, and examples are placed where they support the relevant point. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For example,” and “As a result” help guide the reader, though their use is somewhat formulaic. The conclusion also returns to the main position. To strengthen cohesion, vary the transitions and make the relationship between ideas more explicit rather than relying mainly on signposting words. The final paragraph’s opening concession is not smoothly connected to the writer’s position, so clarify how maintenance costs can coexist with free access.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main argument, with relevant phrases such as “basic needs,” “quality of life,” “limited income,” and “financial pressure.” However, the range is fairly repetitive: “free water,” “poor families,” and “essential” recur, and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “all living people” and “some of charges.” There are also spelling errors in “fudamental” and “benefical,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise alternatives and a wider range of topic vocabulary, such as “safe drinking water,” “low-income households,” and “water infrastructure.” Check spelling carefully and choose natural collocations; this would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and complex forms, including conditional structures such as “If the government provides free water, everyone can easily meet their basic needs” and a concession introduced with “although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the paragraph-level sentence patterns are generally controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in the conclusion: “although some of charges may be necessary …, that I believe” has an incorrect article and an unnecessary “that,” disrupting the sentence structure. The opening also contains “its is,” where the pronoun and verb form are confused. Review articles and sentence construction, especially when combining a concession with your main clause. Greater accuracy in these areas, alongside continued use of varied sentence forms, would improve control.
