Student answer (Band 6.0)

Although free of cost, clean water is a basic human right and it should be available at homes because it is needed for house hold activities and commercial manufacturing too, it is a matter of growing corncern these days. Governments should provide free water and people should use it in moderation through different policies.

The first most evident reason for free water supply at homes is because it is the basis of life and needed for all house hold activities like cleaning, cooking, washing and drinking. Bad quality water spreads water-borne diseases like typhoid, cholera and hepatitis for example third world countries like Pakistan still does not have clean water available. Financially challenged people should not think of paying for a necessity likr water rather then spending it on any other need like education. So clean and free water should be provided by the government to its people but should also make reforms and policies to stop the wastage of water.

To stop the wastage of water it is important for the government to introduce policies where a specific amount of water would be for free and people will be charged if they spend water more than that amount so that people learn the importance of saving water and this would reduce the wastage of water. Similarly, it would help and benefit people who dont afford similar necessities and they would spend this money somewhere else like educating children. Because giving water for free would have severe economical downfall for the government too.

In conclusion clean and free water is a basic need and should be provided in all homes without the biasness of affording it or not. Similarly, awarrness should be given to people to stop wastage and people usung excess water should be charged to maintain equality and fairness, also helping to maintain the economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support providing clean water to homes, while proposing charges for use beyond a free allowance. You address the human-rights and affordability aspects and give relevant reasons, including household needs, water-borne illness, and the effect of costs on poorer families. The proposal to discourage waste also adds a useful qualification rather than treating unlimited free use as the only option. However, some points need fuller explanation: the reference to Pakistan is broad and not supported with a specific example, and the claim that free water would cause a severe economic downturn is asserted rather than explained. Develop these consequences more precisely and connect them directly to your proposed policy.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present the need for water and a conservation policy, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Similarly” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, but cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some connections between ideas are unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “Similarly, it would help and benefit people” does not make clear what “it” refers to, while the shift from charging for excess use to the government’s economic difficulties needs a more explicit link. Use clearer referencing and explain how each point supports the central argument; vary transitions rather than relying on repeated linking words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “water-borne diseases,” “moderation,” “wastage,” and “necessity,” and these choices help communicate the main argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “financially challenged people” and “maintain equality and fairness.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “corncern,” “likr,” “awarrness,” and “usung.” Some expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “severe economical downfall” and “biasness of affording it.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose vocabulary that states your meaning directly. Proofreading and checking unfamiliar phrases in context would make the argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “where,” and “so that,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, some sentences are overloaded or incorrectly joined. The opening sentence combines several claims with commas, making the relationships between them difficult to follow. There are also errors in sentence structure and agreement, as in “third world countries like Pakistan still does not have clean water available,” and the construction “people who dont afford similar necessities” is grammatically incomplete. Improve control by separating long sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and ensuring each clause has a clear grammatical structure. More accurate punctuation would also help distinguish supporting reasons from the main point.
