Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is a well debated topic that whether every home should have free access to clean water supply or not. I strongly agree with this view, becuase every houshold heavily relies on clean water supply for its basic day to day tasks, it can be drinking, cooking, cleaning and etc.

Acess to clean water is a well defined basic human right by big organizations like WHO and United Nations. Nonetheless, people in many African countries have to travel lengthy distances to access very little amount of clean water for their daily use. We need to show empathy towards those having a hard time. Its really difficult to imagine a household running on little to no water in developed countries.

Some people may argue that although clean water is basic necessity, but there could be some practical costs. Governments of developing countries which can't provide clean water, may face two tough challenges: first if that country has enough resources of clean water, secondly if there are enough financial resources to sponsor the logistical cost for providing clean water to each home for free of charge. This includes cost of huge water supply and pipeline networks throughout the country.

I think so both challenges could be worked out, given that developed countries and huge corporations and organizations step up and provide a mechanism to supply clean water to the deprived. A real life example which i noted was when a welfare organization in my country installed 20 hand-pump wells free of cost, in a desert area named "Thar", where people used to struggle to get bare minimum amounts of water for their daily needs. After Installing of wells, people there reported of this being a life changer.

In conclusion, I think so if welfare organizations throughout the world strive for the single goal of providing free of charge clean water supply, we can definitely achieve this goal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly support free access to clean water. You address the human-rights argument, acknowledge practical concerns about resources and infrastructure, and use the Thar hand-pump example to support your view. These relevant points show good coverage of the task. However, the central proposal that every home should receive water free of charge is not fully examined: the example describes wells provided by a welfare organisation, rather than a reliable household supply, and the essay does not explain how ongoing costs or water use would be managed. The discussion of the challenges facing governments is also less developed than the supporting argument. Clarifying these points would make the response more fully developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from your position to supporting reasons, a counterargument, a response, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have distinct purposes, and signposts such as “Nonetheless,” “Some people may argue,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. The Thar example is placed logically after your proposal for outside support. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. “I think so both challenges could be worked out” does not clearly link the proposed solution to the two challenges, and the long sentence beginning “Governments of developing countries” makes its two points difficult to follow. Use more precise links and divide complex explanations into clearer steps to strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “financial resources,” “logistical cost,” “pipeline networks,” and “deprived.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the example-specific vocabulary makes the discussion concrete. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “well debated topic,” “lengthy distances,” “huge water supply,” and “life changer.” Spelling errors, including “becuase,” “Acess,” and “houshold,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent without changing the substance of your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession (“although clean water is basic necessity”) and a conditional structure (“given that developed countries…step up”). The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “It is a well debated topic that whether” has an incorrect clause pattern, while “Some people may argue that although… but” combines incompatible linking structures. In “I think so both challenges could be worked out,” the word order is faulty, and several sentences need clearer punctuation to separate ideas. Work on clause construction, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for these patterns. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
