Student answer (Band 6.0)

Clean water is a basic human right, therefore every household should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I agree that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge because clean water prevent us from germs and from contacting water borne diseases.

Firstly, citizens pay tax to the govenment and one of the reasons of paying the tax is for government to provide them all the social amenities which having access to clean water is one of it. For instace, in my compound in Abuja, we used to pay monthly tax for water board which helped them to supply water to every home for free of charge.

Secondly, health is another reason why clean water should be provided to every household for free of charge. Health is one of the most essential needs of human life, so government should prioritise it over money. For example, dirty water is the main cause of malaria and typhoid not only in Nigeria but in West Africa at large. When government make the accessibility of clean water free of charge in every home, this will help to reduce the growth of malaria and typhoid all over the West African countries.

In conclusion, although that providing free water supply in every home will be costly, but I strong agree that having access to clean water supply in every home should be free of charge because citizens pay tax to the government and it can also help to prevent the increase of malaria and typhoid not only in Nigeria but in West Africa at large.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that household water should be free, and you give two relevant reasons—tax-funded public services and health protection. The Abuja example adds personal support, while the conclusion restates your view and acknowledges the cost. However, the health argument needs more accurate explanation: dirty water is not the main cause of malaria, so this example weakens the support for your claim. The tax argument could also explain more clearly why paying tax means water itself should carry no charge. The response is 234 words, below the 250-word minimum; 33 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop the reasoning and add a relevant example to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because the same phrases and ideas recur, particularly “free of charge” and the repeated reference to malaria and typhoid. Some links between claims also need clearer logic: the example about paying a monthly water-board tax does not fully explain how this resulted in free household water. Use pronouns or varied linking expressions where appropriate, and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit. This would make the argument flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “basic human right,” “social amenities,” “accessibility,” and “prioritise.” The meaning is generally clear, but the range is limited by repeated wording such as “free of charge,” “every home,” and “clean water.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems: “govenment” and “instace” are misspelled, while “contacting water borne diseases” is an unnatural expression. “The growth of malaria” is also an imprecise collocation. Aim for more accurate topic-specific phrasing and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument sound more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a concession in the conclusion. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “clean water prevent us” needs subject–verb agreement, and “one of it” does not agree with the plural idea “social amenities.” The conclusion’s “although that …, but” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly, and “I strong agree” uses the wrong form of the adverb. There are also issues with articles and sentence punctuation, such as joining the opening clauses with a comma. Review agreement, clause structure, and adverb forms, then proofread to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
